Many of you in this area (NE Indiana) already know Simon Peter (we're talking about the band here, not the disciple fisher guy, OK?) You know what a great Christian country band they were and how many great songs they wrote and played together, with Jeff Andrews as their main singer/songwriter. They ministered all over this area and blessed a lot of people. Well tragically, Jeff's life was cut short - at least from our perspective - a few months ago and the band was pretty much in limbo. Not long after that, a new Simon Peter was formed with two new members and a whole new direction musically.    The Fisher Disciple Guy

Dave Hetrick
Lead Guitar and Vocals

Dave has been around longer than dirt (like me). He was playing guitar when "Crossroads" was still a path. A great heart and an incredible talent, Dave's skill as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter is second to none.

He's been through a lot and knows that Jesus is the One Who got him through it.

Jerry Farrington
Bass Guitar and Vocals

Jerry is a music teacher here in Fort Wayne and is also a humble and incredibly gifted musician. He is an accomplished jazz guitarist and what he brings to the table as a bass player is a unique and intricate understanding of music along with a stunning technique.

Mike Reese
Guitar and Vocals

Mike has been singing and writing Christian music almost as long as Dave. He's a decent guitar player, not a bad singer and an OK song writer. He is also writing these descriptions so, as you can see, he is really really humble.

Greg Purlee - Drums

Greg Purlee
Drums and Vocals

What can I say? Greg is an awesome drummer, period. Greg was in a progressive Rock band a few years back called Lovewar, which some of you may remember. Tim Bushong played lead guitar and sang lead vocals and Rick Armstrong played bass (actually Dave Hetrick played bass with them for a while too). The CD they made on the Pakaderm/Word label was called "Soak Your Brain". As the youngest member of Simon Peter, Greg helps keep us from getting in musical ruts and monitors our oxygen tanks so we don't die.

Why we are called Simon Peter

Simon Peter may seem like an odd name for a band, but the man Simon Peter was a simple, burly, hard working fisherman. He was good at sticking his foot in his mouth (so to speak) before understanding the full story. He was the one who cut off the ear of the High Priest’s servant when the Romans came to arrest Jesus. He also was the one who denied Jesus three times before the cock crowed. Sound familiar? Yet he also was the one who recognized that Jesus was “...the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”

It gives us hope that Jesus gave this disciple a new name, “Peter” which means “Rock”. In Matthew 16:18 the Lord says to him, “Now I say that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” Jesus was not saying He would build His church upon Peter, but upon Peter’s declaration that Jesus is the Son of God. Despite all of his imperfections, God transformed Simon Peter into a vessel He could use in astounding ways. We call our band Simon Peter because we see ourselves in him with the same human failings he had, and yet we too have been given new life in Christ. This salvation is a free gift available to all who will simply give their lives to Jesus and follow Him. It is our prayer that this music will help you to do just that.
